My approach to therapy is rooted in the paradoxical mix of simplicity and depth. It is simple in that the foundational element of psychotherapy is the therapeutic conversation; two people sitting across from each other, talking about the issues and challenges brought on by life. The depth emerges from our capacity to go beyond our stories, to go beyond our pasts, and to peer into a possibility of a future that is formed and shaped by you. The journey from where you are now to where you want to go can be beautiful, a new story where your power and agency are front and centre.

I graduated with a Masters in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Waterloo, and then after years of travelling and working abroad, I came back to Toronto and completed a Masters in Pastoral Care, Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy, Buddhist Studies at the University of Toronto. I enjoy reading books on philosophy and psychotherapy, I write poetry and short stories that end abruptly, and I’m always asking myself what it means to live a fulfilling, nourishing life.

Hi, I’m Soroosh.

Frameworks I Draw From
ACT  ·  Narrative Therapy  ·  Person-Centered  ·  Compassion-Focused Therapy  ·  Spiritually-Integrated Psychotherapy  ·  Mindfulness  ·  Somatic Approaches

I don't apply any of frameworks like a formula. In practice, this looks like paying as much attention to what's happening in your body as what's happening in your thoughts. It's about taking the stories you tell about your life seriously, looking at them closely and honestly and asking yourself if these stories are serving you. Do you feel yourself to be a victim? Do you feel small? Unsure of where to start? Does uncertainty rock you to your core and see you constantly seeking for reassurance?

My approach is to be with you as a steady, non-judgemental, kind, and curious presence as wel explore the layers of your life experience.

I trained in these approaches because each one gave me something useful, not because I think therapy should follow a script. I treat your own experience as something worth exploring rather than correcting.

The actual work together is usually simpler than any of that sounds: two people talking honestly about what's hard and collaboratively working together to find ways to move forward.
